My Flooded memories
2024
Medium- Wool, cotton
Size- 14 inch x 16 inch
Growing up in Assam, floods have always been integral to my memories of home. Over time, their recurring presence became the new 'normal', deeply ingrained in our lives. This normalization made me question the concept of ‘normal’, how it differs for each individual, and how, over time, one can become numb and desensitized to even the gravest disruptions.
In 2022, during my short stay in my hometown, I witnessed the floods up close again. The lush greens of the landscape were submerged and nearly erased from view, a stark reminder of the power of nature to both nurture and destroy. If someone were to ask me about my earliest memories of Assam, the floods would undoubtedly be among the first. Growing up in the shadow of the mighty Brahmaputra river, I’ve experienced its awe-inspiring beauty and the havoc it can unleash. This work is woven as fragments, reflecting the displacement, chaos, and fractured reality that floods bring to those who experience them.
